THE FORCE CALIBRATION PROCESS

At CCT Metrology, force calibration is conducted through two methods, depending on the weight capacity of the equipment being calibrated. For equipment with a capacity below 500 LBF, a hand-held dead weight test is performed for tension and compression calibration. Instruments with a capacity over this limit are tested using a computerized force calibration machine with a capacity of 100,000 LBF, with force transducers in three ranges available for use.

The calibration process starts with an exercise of the customer's equipment to ensure it is functioning properly. Then, the appropriate equipment is selected, and the standard is set. A 5-point calibration is typically conducted for most instruments at every 20% of capacity, while higher accuracy instruments require 10 points at 10% of capacity. Our force calibration services adhere to ASTM E4 and other applicable standards, and our results are traceable and accredited to ISO/IEC 17025. Additionally, our calibration certificates provide clear documentation of all relevant information, including "as found" and "as left" conditions, adjustments, repairs, and other pertinent details.
